Cutting Fret Slots With A Dremel

Expansion slot primary function. Sep 13, 2011  The function of expansion slots are exactly like their name. They are meant to hold extra devices. They 'expand' your systems ability to have hardware.

Slot fret slots to the proper depth with a Dremel tool and precision router base. Stewmac #1180 tapered fret slotting bits are best for this job. Be careful not to cut through the filled slot ends. Gradually work bit down to 1/32nd inch deeper than the fret tang. Stop the Dremel and clean off the bit as it accumulates. NUT SLOT WIDTH. The jig can also be used to cut the nut slot sides. After cutting the fret slots, reposition the fingerboard so that the saw blade cuts the opposite side of the desired nut slot. (The board should be clamped in its temporary position). As shown below, the jig will ensure the slot sides are parallel. Mark, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the Dremel and fret slots. Free no deposit bonus codes 2019. I have a question for you regarding the flute 2 bits: Does the shape of the cutter allow for a clean entry, or will the bit potentially widen the end of the slot if you're not careful.

  • Instead of using the barber, try using a dremel with a thin-cut blade and grind off the barbs (leaving a nice rough surface but be careful not to reduce the thickness of the tang). Once the barbs are gone, cut 3 small slots ( 1/4 in) in the tang one close to each end and another in the center.
  • A Dremel with an extension and a cutting disc (diamond is 0.02', thin cut is 0.032'). The table top is 36' x 24'. The two slots are 13' long, and are the same width as the MDF is thick - in my case 16mm. The bridge between the slots is also 16mm. Below the table is the rocker.

Dremel Cutting Guide

Not that I have any say but, for the record, I was sorry to see the name and the art too. So far, this has pretty much been a 'G' rated site. I'm interested in your question but I think if you look around you will see that your avatar is not really in sinc with the others here.

Thanks Ned,
Couldn't have said it better myself, I don't mind a bit of flash and live in a profession that talks itself up and likes to shock and awe the punters (not politics - just rock and roll). This however is our site to which both gentlemen and lady luthiers and enthusiasts contribute and as far as I'm concerned bad manners and vulgar displays are best used on the pimply faced angry adolescent forums that I don't visit.
Check your junk at the door thanks. Rusty.

Fret Cutting Saw

I like the Dremel for trimming the tangs while refretting bound necks. I just use a cut-off disc. As far as anything to do with slots, I have only met disaster.
